About
our Rescue Service
You may contact us by either telephone or email if you have a
Westie you would like us to accept into our program. If you are
having behavior or training problems we may be able to help you
and your Westie.
Our Mission
The WHWTCC Westie Rescue is a non-profit, all volunteer program
existing for the purpose of rescuing surrended, abandoned or stray
Westies and placing them into permanent and loving homes.
We endeavor
to obtain all Westies in shelters and aid owners in recovering
their lost or stolen pets. We operate from the Central Coast and
Central Valley to the Mexican Border as well as having affiliates
in Southern Nevada. We currently are also assisting Arizona.
We are the
Southern California Westie Rescue recognized by the West Highland
White Terrier Club of America and are listed on their website.
In order to be listed you must have club affiliation if there
is a local club, and, sign and abide by their Code of Conduct.
We also have our own very strict Code of
Ethics.
Our club has
been in existence since 1951 and is a chartered non profit organization
in California. The WHWTCC Westie Rescue is solely funded by donations.

Reasons Westies are Placed In
Rescue
Westies
come to us through a variety of reasons. Some come from shelters,
some come from commercial breeders referred to as Puppy Mills,
but most come from families who for one reason or another need
to place their Westies with rescue. The most common reasons for
owners to surrender their Westie into our program include lack
of time, family relocation, divorce, addition of a new baby, medical
problems, death of an owner, owner moving into a facility, allergies,
behavior problems and incompatibility with the Westie personality
and temperament.
Helping And Releasing Your Westie
Because of life circumstances you may find the need to release
your Westie into our Rescue Program. No matter what the reason,
be assured that we are here to serve you. Our first and foremost
thought is with helping a Westie find another home. We are affiliated
with the National Westie Club and are a part of the WHWT Club
of California. We follow the National Club's Code of Conduct and
our own Code of Ethics in regards to
placing Westies in our program.
If this is your situation at the present time please go to our
Contact Us page and call or email
any of the Rescue volunteers at any time. Once we get the call
one of us will arrange a suitable time to get your Westie. We
will ask you to complete the Dog
Profile form which allows you to tell us all about your Westie
which in turn will help us find the best home for him or her.
We also require a Release
Agreement.
If you have any questions regarding your Westie with regard to
allergies, behavior problems, etc please call us as we are also
here to help with problems that may arise, thereby allowing you
to keep you Westie. We will either answer your questions or we
will direct you to experts who can assist you.

Our
Rescue Vounteers
Our wonderful Rescue volunteers are members of the
WHWTCC. We do not have a shelter type facility. The Westies are
placed into Foster Homes until permanent homes can be found.
All of our Westies are spayed/neutered before placement as well
as making sure they are healthy and up to date on vaccinations.
Since we are always
looking for quality foster homes if you think you would like to
be a part of a great group of volunteers helping our little white
furry friends contact us…we will be glad to give you all
the needed information and training.
Age
and Health of Rescued Westies
For those wishing to adopt a rescued Westie please
be aware that we never get puppies and rarely do we get young
Westies, females in particular. The average age of our Westies
for adoption are between 3 and 8. Some are older gents and ladies
and a very few are younger. However considering the lifespan of
a Westie these older Westies can give a family many years of happiness.
We also provide emergency care to all of our rescued Westie and
any other care they may require without thought to costs. Our
first concern is to help the Westie with whatever problem it may
have, whether medical or behavioral.
Adoption
Process
All Rescued Westies are placed in appropriate homes for each particular
Westie even though we do have a Wait list. In order to be on the
Wait List we request that the Application to Adopt (click
here for the Adoption form) be completed and mailed to the
address on the form. Each application must be accompanied by a
non-refundable $5.00 processing fee. There is no guarantee that
a Westie will be placed in your home based on just receipt of
the application. We also cannot tell anyone just how long it will
take to be called regarding an adoption.
All Applicants are
reviewed when we get a rescued Westie into our program in order
to find the best possible match for that particular dog, as our
main focus is on the Westie.
Every person
adopting one of our dogs must sign the Adoption Contract which
states that the dog placed with that person(s) must return the
dog to the WHWTCC Westie Rescue if for any reason the dog cannot
be kept. (click here for the Adoption
Contract)
Rescued Westies
are not “free”. Some of our rescued Westies require
medical attention, including neutering/spaying, vaccinations,
medical checkup, lab work, meds, parasite control, etc. The adoption
fee is $400 per dog under the age of 8 years and $200 -$350 for
dogs over 8 years and Westie mixes. Be assured that all of the
donations are strictly used for the purpose of rescuing and providing
medical and behavioral care so that these Westies can be placed
in their forever homes.
